Experience the violin in ways
you never expected.

School Concerts

Why should I organise a school concert? Music is something that everyone connects with on some level, whether they play an instrument or not. I strive to present the violin in an innovative and refreshing way and use technology (including a looping pedal and electric violin) to create a completely live multi-instrumental experience that appeals to students of all ages.

Experiencing live music inspires future musicians in a way nothing else can. Particularly for small or remote schools, this is something your students (and even teachers) may never have experienced before! After performing at a small school in Munduberra, one of the teachers approached me saying how much she enjoyed the performance because she had never seen a violin played in real life before.

How does a school concert work? A school concert is an opportunity for your students/child to experience a live musician right in their own school or classroom. The concert could be presented as part of a routine music lesson or as a special event for the whole school to attend. You could even organise a concert as part of your school music camp. It is as simple as allocating a space and organising for the students to be present. I will take care of everything else; including the provision of all musical equipment.

How many students do I have to have? This is completely up to you. Any number of students constitutes an audience and whether the group is large or small, the concert can be a success. Bear in mind that it is important to have plenty of teachers present to manage any behavioural issues that may arise.

How old should the students be? Any age! I have had the privilege to perform for school groups ranging in age from kindergarten to high school and have received positive feedback from teachers and students alike.

How much does it cost? I offer several different concert packages, all prices include equipment as well as set-up and pack-up time.

  • $120 for a 30 minute performance
  • $200 for a 60 minute performance
  • $250 for a 60 minute performance and 30 minute interactive Q&A/workshopping session

Please do not hesitate to get in touch should you require a customised concert experience for your students.

“The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it has inspired some to experiment more in their playing … I wouldn’t change a thing with your performance. It was terrific!”

- Anita Berry, Strings Teacher from Innisfail, FNQ

Three tips to make your school concert a success:

1

Plan age-appropriate concerts. Where possible it is helpful to separate students into several age groups and plan a concert for each group. During performance, I strive to relate to the audience as personally as possible and interacting with very young children is vastly different to performing for high-schoolers. At the very least, separating primary school and high school into different groups will ensure a more fulfilling experience for everyone.

2

Challenge the students to get involved. Whether you are facilitating a concert or a workshop, it only enhances the event if students are excited to be present. Encourage the students to come to the concert or workshop with questions and thoughts to discuss.

3

If possible, allow some time for smaller groups to stay after the concert. Students are more than welcome to ask questions about the instruments and musical equipment.
